All of us have seen house fires. We hear about them on the news. Perhaps someone you know such as a family member, friend, or neighbor has had their home destroyed or badly damaged by a fire. A home is one of our most prized possessions on this earth. Although we may do many things to protect it, such as purchasing insurance, security systems, and security cameras, perhaps the greatest risk of all is fire. No home should be without a working installed fire alarm. Having fire alarms in your home may be the one simple thing that saves your home or your life.These types of alert systems use smoke or heat detectors that are built inside to detect the presence of a fire in a home. This prey moves silently; often unnoticed until it is too late. This is why detection systems are set up to locate a fire and sound the alert within seconds after a fire is started in your home.Most systems are armed with a very piercing alarm that is set off when the presence of a fire is detected. This is to alert everyone in the home of the fire. A fire alarm will usually be able to detect a fire only moments after it has sparked.There are two types of these alarms that are common: the ionization detector and the photoelectric detector. These different types of fire alarms are determined by the device inside of them that detects the fire.Few homes once were equipped with proper fire safety equipment, but in recent years, this number has increased drastically. At least 85% of American homes have now installed a fire alarm system in their homes.You may find it interesting to note that although house fires have not been as bad, the number of people injured in house fires has not decreased at all. This is likely because although people have recognized the need for fire alarms in their homes, they do not keep up with the maintenance of them. A fire alarm will do little good if it has malfunctioned because it has not been checked for a long period of time or the batteries have been allowed to die. It is important to have fire alarms, but it is of utmost importance to check them regularly to make sure that they are working properly.Modern fire alarms have saved lives and we have much to be grateful for. All of us have been annoyed at one time or another when we have burned our popcorn or left the skillet on for too long and set it off. However, you should keep in mind that this is the one thing that could potentially save your life some day. Get a fire alarm. Install it, and check it regularly. Protect your family and your home.
