Optimized Web Page Template

Auto Date Sunday, August 31st, 2008

I want to give you a free web page template that will be
search engine friendly. Why?

Well, I assume you want your web page to come up as high as
possible in search engines because that generates free
traffic.

On the other hand, your page has to deliver value to your
visitors. Most people on the web are not searching to buy
something. They’re surfing the web to find information to
solve a problem or fill their needs. If your page delivers
that, they’ll be back.

Fortunately that is exactly what search engines want you to
do.
Their job is to present the best web pages possible to any
search action. How do they do that?

Well, to be honest: I don’t know! The only people who do
know are the developers of search engine software. And there
are a lot of experts on the web who try to find out how they
do it. But that’s a full time job and I don’t have time for
that.

The only thing I know is that search enines can’t see what
we see on a web page. Just go to any page and click ‘View
Source’ in the menu of your browser. That’s how they see a
page. They spider it, analyze it and perform some
arithmetics with it, way beyond my comprehension.
But they can’t read images or graphics or flash and they
(still) have a lot of troubles with Javascript, dynamic
generated pages, fancy menus and frames.
Their software only does exactly what it is programmed to
do. With millions and millions of pages on the web, they
can’t solve every possible situation. It’s just a general
approach.

So, if you make it easy for the engine software to spider
and interpret your web pages, there’s a big chance you come
up high in their rankings. At least you have a big
advantage.
That’s why I always use a simple HTML-editor. It does
exactly what I put into my pages and it doesn’t include
extra coding. Right now I’m using AceHTML Freeware, but I
also like Arachnophilia a lot.

If the above is true, and I think it is, then your pages
have to be as simple as possible. It should be a clean
mixture between text and HTML tags, with lots of text and as
few tags as possible.

Still, you have to include some techniques to satisfy the
search engine software. There are a few point you have to
keep in mind:

1. the name of a web page should alwasy be the main keyword
of that page; don’t mix keywords; instead write seperate
pages for each keyword and link them;
2. always include the main keyword in the Title-tag; keep
the Title limited to 7 or 8 words;
3. always include the Description and Keyword tags and use
your main keyword here; although these tags are less and
less important at the time of writing this article, you’ll
never know if that’s going to change in future;
4. always use one H tag and include your main keyword in it;
5. always use one IMG tag and include your keyword in the
ALT variable;
6. put your navigation and menu on the right side, so your
text is investigated first;
7. try to use your main keyword in an anchor (A) text; I use
a link at the bottom of every page to the top;
8. use your main keyword at the very beginning and at the
end of your text; include some variatons like plurals; don’t
overdue this!

An excellent way to test if your web page is well designed
is to use a free software program that analyzes your page.
You can find this little gem at http://www.analog.com/

These are the main elements to create a good web page.
If you click the link below you will see a page that
contains this article and some extra comments. You can save
that page (in the menu of your browser click ‘Save As’ and
save it on your hard disk. Use the page as a template. Of
course you have to include your own graphics, but don’t
overdo that.

Internet Sharing using a Linux Box

Auto Date Sunday, August 31st, 2008

If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.

– George Bernard Shaw

The computer world was similar to all of us having an apple each till some time back. And then the wise men from the industry made networks. Ideas started flowing all over and soon came in the internet. The internet has been the best thing that has happened to the computer world so far. It has created a platform where we can share our ideas.

Since the Internet is a large network composed of smaller networks, it made sense to break the address space into smaller chunks. Network classes enable us to break down this address space. In IPv4 the various classes of networks are -

Class A networks have an address range between 1.0.0.1 to 126.255.255.254 and support 16 million hosts on each of 127 networks.
Class B networks have an address range between 128.1.0.1 to 191.255.255.254 and support 65,000 hosts on each of 16,000 networks.
Class C networks have an address range between 192.0.1.1 to 223.255.254.254 and support 254 hosts on each of 2 million networks.
Class D networks have an address range between 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255 and are reserved for multicast groups.

Class E networks have an address range between 240.0.0.0 to 254.255.255.254 and are reserved for the future

Such a system makes things simple and networks are manageable. However, they cannot communicate with each other. The scenario is very similar to how communities grew around the world. With time people from different communities needed to communicate with each other, however language was the barrier. The solution they found was people who understand both the languages i.e. translators. So if you need to talk to a beautiful French girl, all you need to do is get somebody who understands French and can translate English to French and vice versa. Routers /gateways do the same in computer networks. Different networks communicate with each other using routers.

A router allows hosts that are not on the same logical network, like an IP subnet, to communicate with each other. The router receives packets (chunks of data) on an interface and routes them to where they need to go based on a routing table; the table allows the router to have knowledge of where a given logical network is located.

Most offices and homes have small class C private networks. These networks need to communicate with the servers in the internet. The only logical way for them is to use a gateway/router. Linux has routing functionality in the kernel itself which makes it an ideal choice for as routing box.

One simple way of sharing the internet connection using linux is using the IP forwarding feature of the kernel and network address translation (NAT). For NATing one can use either ipchains or iptables. It is assumed that the private network is in the 192.168.1.0-255 range.
Let us take the example of a simple network. The server is used to connect to the internet. It’s IP address is 192.168.1.1. There are 4 workstations 192.168.1.2-5. They are connected to the server via the switch. All the workstations share the internet through 192.168.1.1

The first step is to enable ipforwarding in the kernel of the server (192.168.1.1).

$ vi /etc/sysctl.conf
Change the line
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0

to

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

This would enable ip forwarding.

Then we need to get the server to NAT which can be done via ipchains or iptables.

If ipchains is used, create a file called rc.fw and add following lines

$ vi /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc.fw

#!/bin/bash

# First Load the ipchains kernel module. Required only if ipchains is compiled as a module
.
/sbin/modprobe ipchains
insmod ipchains

# MASQ the full 192.168.1.0/24 network
/sbin/ipchains -A forward -s 192.168.1.0/24 -j MASQ

# List the rules
/sbin/ipchains -L -n

If iptables is used instead of ipchains, create a file called rc.fw and add the following lines -

$ vi /etc/rc.d/init.d/rc.fw

#!/bin/bash

# First Load the ipchains kernel module . Required only if iptables is compiled as a module
/sbin/modprobe iptables
insmod iptables

# MASQ the full network
/sbin/iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE

# List the rules
/sbin/iptables -L

This would look after all the entire data traffic from the local network to the internet.

Finally add this to the startup -

$ vi /etc/rc.local

Add the line

/etc/rc.d/init.d/rc.fw

This ensures that the settings are retained after a reboot also.

After rebooting the server would do all the routing functions for the entire network.

On the client side all that is required is to set the default router/gateway as the server’s IP i.e. 192.168.1.1. The entire network is now set to share the internet connection.

MLM Prospecting Success- The Secrets to starting a Conversation with Someone You Don’t Know

Auto Date Sunday, August 24th, 2008

In MLM, starting a conversation with anyone about Network Marketing is so easy, but yet we seem to make it difficult. We seem to hesitate and wonder what to say or do, and we often miss the chance to talk about our business to people who truly would be open to moving their life into a larger place.

Why does this happen?

Many times, it is a fear because of a lack of knowledge, or experience approaching people. Talking to people about your business starts with talking to people about anything but your business. Talk about their business and employment. Be interested in THEM, not you. And approaching people with a GREAT INTENTION is the secret.

INFERNO Secret:

Approach people that you do not know for only one reason: To see which category they fit into.

You see, in this world, there are only 2 types of folks:

People you CAN help, and people you CANNOT help.

And if someone that you are chatting with is totally satisfied with where they are in life, then odds are, they are someone who you really cannot help with your Network Marketing business. They may be too entrenched to be open to something new.

There is one trait that MUST be present to help someone with their future and life:

DISSATISFACTION.

And you can listen to someone and tell if they have that trait in their life and career.

They must be dissatisfied about something in their life. It could be unhappy with their career, job, income, future, boss, lack of recognition in the workplace, etc. You need to LISTEN to their words and see where they are and listen for words like, “never,” “it’s a job,” “dread,” “it’s a living,” “change,” etc.

To approach someone is so easy, if you simply approach them with one thing in mind– seeing where they fall in the 2 categories of life. Someone that is totally happy and does not want to enlarge their life and lifestyle, or someone whose timing is good, and is ready to enlarge their life and lifestyle.

Here are 5 HOT ways to open up a conversation with someone that you happen to be in an elevator with, standing in line with, or just happen to be within proximity of a conversation:

1) “What do you do for a living?”

This question simply engages the person with a non threatening question to open up the conversation.

2) “That sounds interesting. How long have you been doing it?”

This question starts to uncover where they are in years, and you can tell how they answer it if they are proud of working in that profession or tired of it.

3) “What’s the name of the company you work for?”

This is a question that will determine where they are employed, and you can tell by their answer if they are truly excited about being there, or not. Someone who says, “I work for ABC company. They are so good to me!” or “They are a great company” THAT is a person who likes where they work. If they say, “I work for ABC company downtown and have been there for 12 years,” their focus is different here. It sounds like a prison term.

4) “Tell me about it. Do you enjoy what you do?”

This question will simply uncover if there is any hint of dissatisfaction in their career or employment. If they answer, “YES! I love what I do!” they probably are happy with their job. If they say, “It’s a living,” or “It’s a job,” or “It puts food on the table,” odds are they are not totally happy with what they do. Both answers though carry potential for Network Marketing.

Why?

One is totally happy with what they do, and the other is not. The first answer shows a potential great personality, and could be a potential positive asset to any company. The other answer shows some dissatisfaction, and may be looking for something better.

5a) “Just curious, are you keeping your income options open or know anyone who is where you work?”

This question simply sees if they are open to more money. Many times they will ask, “What do you mean?” I always answered “There is a company that I know that is looking for some talent. They are looking for people who are looking for more in life and to do better financially. I am not sure if it would be a fit here, but judging from our conversation, I believe it would be worth 15 minutes of your time. Gotta card or contact number?”

or..

5b) “Do you know anyone where you work that is unhappy with their job? I know of a company that is looking for some talent and would love to talk to them.”

That’s it. That simple. That brief. I held this conversation with people thousands of times,and sold a lot of product, and recruited a lot of folks. How does it work? It simply is a conversation which puts people at ease.

If this business of MLM could be boiled down to one word, it would be CONVERSATION. And that is all it is. A simple, friendly, non threatening conversation that can be held with anyone, anywhere.

That is one of the many ways that you talk to folks you do not know about MLM and Network Marketing.

AS/NZS5762:2005 In-ServiceSafety Inspection and Testing - Repaired Electrical Equipment Standard

Auto Date Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Standards Australia have released the new AS/NZS5762: 2005 In-Service safety inspection and testing - Repaired electrical equipment standard.

While many companies are recognise there AS/NZS3760 obligations which requires them to periodically test and tag their single phase and polyphase electrical equipment in the workplace, this new standard indicates the requirements for the post-sale safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment, which has been repaired, or undergone service maintenance which could have affected its electrical safety.

This standard covers the testing and inspection process following the repair of electrical appliances so that when the appliance re-enters service, protection against hazards such as electrical shock, mechanical injury, or electrical fire is ensured as far as possible.

All tests are conducted in accordance with AS/NZ 3760: 2005 - In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment with extra requirements on the test tags.

AS/NZS5762: 2005 specifies that both compliant and non-compliant equipment shall be fitted with a tag or other indicator. So equipment that requires remedial action shall be labelled to indicate that it requires repair and compliant equipment that has undergone the required repair shall be labelled with a compliant equipment tag.

Greek Hotels - a Home in the Med

Auto Date Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Greece is full of hotels. Its Mediterranean location is an ideal holiday spot, and it is still seeing tourism increase year after year, even though it has been steadily increasing by 10% a year for decades. The Olympics in 2004 only boosted its popularity further, as did the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest - there’s no sign of a decline any time soon.

As tourism is such an important industry in Greece, hotels are everywhere: they just can’t build them fast enough to meet all the demand. As a result, the quality of hotels in the country varies widely. Rather than being ranked with stars, hotels in Greece have been put into categories, with ‘category A’ being the best. However, as the category system is numerical, based on things like the sizes of rooms, it can often be deceptive - many category B or C hotels are actually better than some category A ones, or at least most people would consider them superior.

There are lots and lots of things you should look for when choosing a hotel. What are the facilities like? Is there any building work going on? Can you bring children? What kind of rooms are there? Is it close to what you’ve come to see? And so on. The best way to get all these questions answered is to use a site that reviews or compares hotels, so that you can see all the features of each hotel laid out in front of you.

One thing you do need to realise is that, as an English speaker, you may find you are only able to book at quite big hotels. Smaller hotels will often rely on agencies to act as a go-between and translate into Greek for them, which can push up the cost of staying there.

One last thing to note is that it is essential to book before you go to Greece rather than trying to find a hotel once you’re there. The exceptionally high demand means that in peak season all the decently-located hotels can easily end up full, leaving you to wander around aimlessly for hours trying to find something. It’s much easier to just book in somewhere before you ever get on the plane.

Natural Skincare Products and Health Benefits

Auto Date Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Natural and organic skincare products are becoming the standard for many consumers who have a habitual skincare routine. Many of these products do not just substitute those chemical ingredients that are known to cause allergy problems or that have been linked with cancer risks with other chemicals. Instead, they abandon chemicals altogether and instead utilise natural ingredients. Aloe Vera is a well known example of a plant that has a wide range of medicinal properties; its leaves hold a lot of water and the plant helps hydration and is known to be soothing for all types of skin. Aloe Vera has been used in natural and organic skincare products for some time now, as well as in sunblock and anti-aging creams (Aloe Vera contains potassium, which is known for its anti-aging properties). Some natural ingredients have been used for thousands of years. Apple cider vinegar, for example, is known to have been used for 5,000 years and is still used as a natural substitute for alcohol in products that are designed for sensitive skin. Whilst the mists of time have now obscured the circumstances under which humans discovered the natural medicinal properties of now-established ingredients like Aloe Vera, people are still discovering that familiar natural ingredients have unfamiliar benefits to the health. A recent study from Bangladesh has found that mortality rates of very prematurely born babies are improved by applying sunflower seed oil as a topical lotion directly to their skin. Although it is not proven why this is the case it has been suggested that the natural oil improves the skin’s ability to defend itself from bacteria and infection. There is also the suggestion that the oil helps the skin’s ability to reduce water and heat leaving the body. Many new mothers already prefer to use organic and natural skincare products for their babies. Baby skin is extremely delicate, and there are some concerns that ingredients which older people could deal with effectively are more likely to be absorbed into a new born’s bloodstream. This fact could also provide an explanation for the question of why sunflower seed oil is proving to be so beneficial for those vulnerable babies born early, as there is speculation that the oil is perhaps being absorbed into the children’s body and being utilised to form barriers in the gastrointestinal tract. It has also been suggested that the topical nature of the oil is also important in coming to some explanation as to why the cream works. In prematurely born babies the major source of problems is a compromised skin barrier, but this study found that the natural sunflower seed oil applied directly to the skin reduced instances of sepsis and other skin infections. In organic and natural skincare products sunflowers are used in two different ingredients.

Longevity - Can Fat Cells Dictate How Long a Human Survives?

Auto Date Sunday, August 17th, 2008

According to the September Issue of Popular Mechanics, a report written by Jim Wilson explains how human beings may some day have the capability to survive to be 180 (one hundred eighty) years old!

Based on research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology -( MIT ) - and Professor Leonard P. Guarante; genetic makeup that rules our individual “time-clocks” can be virtually erased.

* How is this possible?

Every person has DNA fragments dubbed telomeres Our telomeres are specifically designed to extend our lives. These telomeres are copied from genetic material in our chromosomes. As mitosis occurs, these telomeres pass to our newly formed cells. As we age, however, our cell information becomes illegible - similar to “…a document that is photocopied too many times…” [1] Once this happens, our cells are depleted of telomeres before our chromosomes are completely corrupted. Without telomeres, our cells no longer have the vital information to reproduce themselves. Based on this research, our maximum human lifespan - theoretically - could typically range from 120 to 180 years of age IF we can instruct our genes how to tell our body to lose fat as opposed to storing it.

* So what does fat content have to do with longevity?

According to studies which began halfway in the 20th century; yeast, worms and lab rats who sustained themselves on the brink of starvation lived substantially longer than their well-nourished counterparts. Genetically tied to our personal genepools are WAT (White Adipose Tissue) cells; otherwise known as fat cells, our bodies automatically preserve fat for future unsurities. Aside from starvation ditets, Professor Guarente is optimistic that research will lead to a drug that may bind the single protein (Sirt1) (which directs the body’s ability to store fat in WAT cells) and trick it into thinking that it needs to release fat as opposed to saving it. In this sense, we could - hypothetically speaking - have our cake and eat it too. And perhaps, live to be nearly two centuries old!

The moral dilemmas of super-long, life expectancies could inevitably trigger social and economic controversies. In closing, I leave you with my own thoughts on this topic, based on a satirical analogy from MountainWings.com:

The Dragonfly

“Once, in a little pond, in the muddy water under the lily pads, there lived a little water beetle in a community of water beetles. They lived a simple and comfortable life in the pond with few disturbances and interruptions.

Once in a while, sadness would come to the community when one of their fellow beetles would climb the stem of a lily pad and would never be seen again. They knew when this happened; their friend was dead, gone forever.

Then, one day, one little water beetle felt an irresistible urge to climb up that stem. However, he was determined that he would not leave forever. He would come back and tell his friends what he had found at the top.

When he reached the top and climbed out of the water onto the surface of the lily pad, he was so tired, and the sun felt so warm, that he decided he must take a nap. As he slept, his body changed and when he woke up, he had turned into a beautiful blue-tailed dragonfly with broad wings and a slender body designed for flying.

So, fly he did! And, as he soared he saw the beauty of a whole new world and a far superior way of life to what he had never known existed.

Then he remembered his beetle friends and how they were thinking by now he was dead. He wanted to go back to tell them, and explain to them that he was now more alive than he had ever been before. His life had been fulfilled rather than ended.

But, his new body would not go down into the water. He could not get back to tell his friends the good news. Then he understood that their time would come, when they, too, would know what he now knew. So, he raised his wings and flew off into his joyous new life!”

Longer lives - longer civilizations? Some thoughts to ponder…

Give Your Home A Fresh Look Without Changing Your Furniture Or Redecorating

Auto Date Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Is your home beginning to feel a little tired? If you feel like a change but don’t want to spend a fortune on new furniture or redecorating, here are a few quick tips on how to give your home a fresh feel:

  1. Scatter Cushions - These are a very simple and inexpensive way of changing the look of your furniture. They can give a old sofa a new lease of life, soften leather upholstery, even make your bedding look opulent. And don’t forget that once you’ve bought your first set you only need to buy the covers when you fancy another change. Try different colour schemes for different times of year. If you’re feeling really adventurous you can even coordinate them with your curtains, linen, or artwork.

  2. Artwork - A simple way of making a change to your home is to change your existing artwork. Good artwork is becoming more and more affordable. You can switch from contemporary to traditional to exotic in a flash. Coordinated well with objet d’art flowers and scatters, this can have a large impact of the feel of any room.

  3. Sofa Covers - Tired of your sofa but don’t want to spend a fortune buying a new one? A simple and fairly inexpensive way of injecting some new life into an old sofa is to have sofa covers made. Not only do they completely change the feel of your sofa but they also enable you to change the setting in which your sofa is used. For example a traditional styled sofa with a simple light sofa cover can easily be used in a contemporary environment, opening up a whole world of design ideas for you.
